The Board of College Councils (BOCC) is an umbrella organization overseeing the 24 college councils. It is sometimes referred to as "the SG for the College Council system," although it is subservient to the actual Student Government at the University of Florida.

For the 2008-2009 Fiscal Year, BOCC has been preliminarily budgeted $71,477.00 and oversees a total of $412,162.00 of budget lines for all of the college councils.

From the BOCC website:

The Board of College Councils serves to oversee the funding and the operations of more than 300 academic student organizations on the UF campus. Nearly every academic discipline at UF has an aligned student organization that provides academic, professional, and social opportunities beyond those available in the classroom.

[edit] BOCC History

BOCC has a long history in Student Government politics. Originally, student senators were elected as members of their council, with various effects; for instance, constituency requirements for College senators consisted of participating in college council meetings, and replacement senators had to be confirmed by their council.

Historically, BOCC did not play much of a role in The System, and was sometimes viewed as a bastion of Independent power. On occasion, this came to open conflict, such as the Bill 1066 controversy, which opponents claimed was an attempt to bring BOCC under more direct political control by SG.
