Eric Berger, while at UF, was elected a Student Senator to two non-consecutive terms - one representing District B for the Progress Party (Fall 1999), and one representing the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the Students Unite Now Party in Spring 2001. Berger was also notable for having been Party Leader for two different parties - the FBK-backed Progress Party during Summer 2000, and for the opposition SUN Party in Summer 2001. While Progress Party leader, Berger also served as Judiciary Committee chairman.

It was his split with the FBK-backed majority (Impact and Progress parties) over Bill 1066, along with other activists in the Greek community (including supporters of Nikki Fried), that helped to create a successful coalition with the Independents in support of the SUN Party.

His leadership of SUN was cautious, focusing on getting things done. He became disillusioned with partisan politics and resigned his Senate seat in early Fall 2001.

While at UF, he was also involved in a Gator Drama Club that performed in Greece over the summer; he also worked with BOCC as its historian in 2001-2002. He was an active member in Phi Delta Theta.
