[edit] Powers
The Faculty Senate is established by the University Constitution. Although the Constitution subordinates it to the President of the University the Constitution can be amended solely by the Faculty Senate, thus raising the question of who has final say. In practice, the Faculty Senate rarely exercises its power to challenge the administration on issues of university governance, maintaining mostly ceremonial power in that domain. The Faculty Senate does, however, take an active role in the curriculum of the University.
[edit] Leadership
Dr. Frank Bova, a medical doctor at the Shands teaching hospital, is the current Faculty Senate President. With this distinction, he serves as on the Board of Trustees.
