[edit] Office Holder Infobox

Anyone know how we would set up the Template:Infobox Executive Officer to handle multiple offices? For instance, some type of "while" loop could be used in the case of Jordan Johnson (office1=President, office2=Senate President)Frank005 20:12, 23 October 2009 (EDT)

[edit] Copyright Policy

I'd like to propose that we license Gatorpedia under Creative Commons Non-commercial share-alike. The part I'm still not clear on is whether this license would have any bearing on Gatorpedia, Inc. ownership of the content (which I believe the Corporation should maintain and assert) and what, if any, limitations that would leave. As well it seems to me that we need to promulgate a policy of copyright transfer for the content put up on Gatorpedia becoming the property of Gatorpedia, Inc. etc. --Hydrosam 00:15, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Biographical Photograph Policy

Two questions for us to discuss: (and feel free to move this to a more appropriate place)

  1. What should our policy be for biographical photographs? I believe that we should have something along the lines of we'll use images from (X) location unless the individual themself submits some other image that complies with (Y) policy for copyright and editorial content.
  2. What should our policy be for the copyright status of photographs? Eric, for example has uploaded some images of himself and others for biographical pages. The one of MaryGrace Bell for example is obviously the Senate head shot swiped off the SG Senate website. It seems to me that we need to get something going like Wikipedia has about he copyright status and origin of these images. It also seems to me that we should probably try getting originals of these images or getting the senators to submit their own so that things are prettier.

[edit] Main Page Content

So I'm trying to brainstorm how to organize the main page of the site. My inclination is to create something like the Wikipedia main page (after you get past the splash page) which has essentially a group of different portals that a user can go to depending on their interests. I'd propose we organize it under some sort of headers (a few proposed below) that then go to primer articles mainly aimed at educating new Gators with site content and then with sufficient links to dig deeper into the site. My thought is that experienced users and older Gators are going to use the site more for reference while younger Gators browse more in a portal-based layout.

  1. SG
  2. Courses
  3. Gator Lore/Traditions
  4. Sports
  5. Facilities
  6. Programs
  7. Gainesville To-Do (restaurants, nightlife, attractions, etc.)
  8. Housing
  9. Student Activities (organizations, etc.)--Hydrosam 00:15, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Amazon.com referrals for books mentioned on Gatorpedia

So Ken Kerns' page and his inclusion of links to buy his books on Amazon brings up an interesting question for Gatorpedia on policy for this. Right now he's got it with a referral link to someone unknown. This means that whoever buys the book on that link will result in someone unknown getting a referral commission (usually 4%, but up to 10% depending on the product). The policy decision we need to make is whether or not to allow referral links to buy products at all, and if we do allow them, whether or not to allow referrals on the links instead of straight-up product page links, and finally if we allow referrals, whether to allow individuals who make the edit to pick who gets the referral or to enforce a policy of all referrals being to an account that pays to Gatorpedia, Inc. I think we should allow links with referrals, but require that the referral be to Gatorpedia, Inc. This could be enforced by editing practice with the Sysops or probably through some other programatic settings like a bot. --Hydrosam 21:23, 20 April 2008 (EDT)

I second this motion --Kshuey 21:38, 20 April 2008 (EDT)
I don't mind any which way on my books or the overall policy. The links I gave are just the ones I put in my favorites, without paying attention to the distinction between referral links and straight-forward product page links. If you guys can get a referral that benefits Gatorpedia, all the more power to you. --Ken Kerns 21:52, 20 April 2008 (EDT)
